The Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) is developing a new standard for cleanliness in operating theatres and adjacent rooms, and Airsonett is one of members of the project group (named TK527). The purpose is to stop airborne bacteria to reach the patient and/or the surgical equipment. The guidelines will include requirements on functionality and directives for technical design of the ventilation system and also define methods for evaluation the ventilation system’s capacity to remove contamination from the air, mainly micro-organisms.
Airsonett is a research based medical technology company with a unique technology which leads the development of preventative and secondary preventative treatment of allergic asthma as well as management of airborne bacteria and virus contamination.
“Before European standards are in place in this area, there is a clear need for Swedish guidelines. The current Swedish national standards are from the 1980’s and new ventilation technology has been introduced since then. We are pleased to be part of the work to formulate new guidelines for Sweden and to contribute with our competence and experience in this area” says Peter Ekolind, Global Marketing and Sales Director at Airsonett.”We hope our experience and knowledge of hospital ventilation can contribute in a positive way.”
In the SIS Project group there are delegates from the Swedish Healthcare sector, local councils, the Swedish Association for Health Cleanliness (SFVH), the KTH University, property maintenance companies, distributors, constructors and technical consultants.
The new standards will be released in 2011. For more information about SIS and the project, visit www.sis.se.
